Dictator-Free America: A Testimony to Democracy

American history stands distinct in the world for being untainted by the rule of dictators, kings, or monarchs. The absence of autocracy here can be traced back to our Founding Fathers’ visionary predilection for Democracy. By mulling over the reasons that led to this inclination, we can discern the importance of coexistence, understanding, and empathetic listening. Such traits have been instrumental in securing the freedom we relish and can help us navigate current societal strives, bridging gaps and mending differences.

History has taught us that an American can only be loyal or patriotic to United States only by a sincere pledge to the Constitution/Bill of Rights. Without the Constitution, there is no United State of America. The Founders tried it but it did not work.

Articles of the confederation

Before the Constitution was ratified by the thirteen states, there was the Articles of the Confederation. Indeed the 13 states became independent states under the Articles of the Confederate. Not only was there a contention of representation, but also, how to regulate taxes, raise army, adjudicate disputes, regulate commerce, conduct foreign policy. These were the issues that confronted them when they tried to live together with the Articles of the Confederate. Ref: The Constitution of the United States: A Transcription | National Archives

In drafting the Constitution, power, economic interests and other factors might have played a role, but it was the great desire to create a political framework consistent with how great a nation United States will be that made them succeed. They also knew that gray areas did exist. Yet they believed that with dignity, honor, integrity and loyalty to the Constitution, the Union would stand.

Loyalty to the Constitution

Loyalty to the Constitution is imperative for the survival of the Union. Every individual is obliged to respect the Constitution. With integrity, honor, dignity, and loyalty, those before us has held the Union together and it is our duty to save it for the generation coming after us.

American Exceptionalism

American Exceptionalism does not mean that we are better than anyone. It means that we are different, for better or worse. The Settlers finding themselves in a new environment, made a new moral quality of accepting the unexcepted in the New World. This led to their exceptionalism by refusing to continue with their former way of governing. They decided to abandon the dominant social system in medieval Europe in which the nobility held power with the Crown or live under a sovereign head of state or emperor. Through the influence of some great writers, they created three distinct branches of government sharing power.

These distinct branches sought to create social equality and self-reliance with the interest of the individual as their goal. This goal is not complete yet, but this is who we are as nation. We strive through the Constitution to grant freedom to every individual. We should never strive for feudalism, monarchy or dictatorship because it will not work for us. Any attempt to create such government in America will create anarchy.

Civil War in America

Fantasizing about civil war in America does not augur well for anyone. The Founders went to war and the end results were not pretty. Our weapons of war in the 21st century is not only heavy with firepower but devastating. In a civil war, these weapons may be engaged and when that happens, no one will be left behind. There are many avenues that we can employ to settle our differences to keep the Union standing. Our enemies will love to see us fall. We must do all we can to put them to shame.
